17th Pine Barrens
Where
When
(revised date)
Centered around Batsto Historic Village, many of the trails date back to the 17th century when they were used to transport bog ore to be made into cannon balls for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Since then, many more trails have been established by the Forest Service in this area known as the Pine Barrens, encompassing one million acres of pine forests, cedar swamps, and streams. Water flows from the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer - one of the largest on the continent. There is usually an abundance of water, so expect to get your feet wet and your Jeep® 4x4 muddy in the many mud holes and water crossings.
Tow hooks mandatory.
